Speculating, it’s likely that Microsoft paid Sega for the right to work with Relic, as it probably did for Creative Assembly, the Sega-owned studio that developed Halo Wars 2. Until its release, many RTS fans are returning to Age of Empires thanks to celebrated Definitive Edition remasters that bring updated graphics, reworked mechanics, and overhauled campaigns.Īge of Empires 4 will be Relic’s first game produced for a publisher other than Sega, its owner, since it was purchased by auction in the selling off of THQ’s assets in 2013. It appears to be a return to medieval times instead of another step forward in human history. Age of Empires IV is a revival of the series that hopes to capture the old magic while offering something new to veterans and newcomers alike.
